Biography

Mario Vanhoucke is a full professor at Ghent University (Belgium) and Vlerick Business School (Belgium) and a senior teaching fellow at UCL School of Management of University College London (UK). He is passionate about everything that is related to project scheduling, risk analysis and project control. He is continuously searching for better ways to measure, improve and optimize the performance of projects in progress and their resource efficiency. He therefore relies on his Operations Research background and combines research with practice at academic and professional conferences, often in collaboration with PMI (www.pmi.org).

As a founder of the “Operations Research & Scheduling” (www.projectmanagement.ugent.be) research group and leader of a more than a million euro research project, together with universities at the UK and the US, he continuously strives for setting up collaborations with national and international companies, often with members from PMI Belgium.

Mario writes his own project management software tools, both as standalone desktop versions and as integrative tools in company software environments. Mario shares his ideas in his books (www.or-as.be/books) and can be followed on twitter (@MarioVanhoucke) or LinkedIn. He has received multiple research awards, including the most recent "Outstanding Research" from IPMA in 2020.
