I am a researcher in sustainability of built environment with an architectural and sustainability consultant background.
As a part of my PhD I have been exploring building performance simulation space and developing new tools for advanced energy and indoor environment analysis. The primary use of these new tools and protocols is to undertake simulation model calibration, uncertainty analysis and sensitivity analysis. The work is based on case studies where data collected about these buildings, their characteristics and performance (energy and IEQ) is used to understand the performance issues and identify improvement opportunities. Model calibration is used to support the findings and validate them. My research was linked with Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council project ‘Total Performance’ of Low Carbon Buildings in China and the UK (EP/N009703/1). Within the TOP project I also contributed to new CIBSE Technical Memorandums on Operational Performance of Buildings.
Through my professional working experience as an architect and a sustainability consultant with PSI Energy, New Delhi, I have developed skills to deliver sustainable green building designs. Through the various projects I have gained expertise of dealing with and implementing concepts including but not limited to improving thermal performance in buildings, lighting and shading design, incorporating natural ventilation and using renewable energy sources. Through that time, I had spent extensive time in building performance modelling, optimising designs for low energy use and improved Indoor Environment Quality (thermal, visual, acoustic and IAQ).
As a part of my PhD work, which is partly funded by DesignBuilder Software, I have been gaining experience in software programming and developing advanced performance analysis tools like uncertainty and sensitivity analysis in the software. Additionally, I have been supporting the company in promoting its new software at various events and conferences.
I am a certified master-trainer for India's ECBC since February 2015 with a role of carrying out capacity building programs and helping other stakeholders in ECBC compliance approaches at the city and municipal level. As a ECBC trainer and otherwise I have conducted sessions in more than 15 training programs, webinars and workshops on green buildings, energy simulation and energy efficiency.
As a PGTA and then as a Research Fellow at UCL IEDE I am engaged in developing course content and teaching for energy simulation related modules that requires use of DesignBuilder Software across various Masters and Undergraduate modules.
Previously as a Visiting Faculty at School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Delhi, I took lectures for undergraduate architecture students on efficient electrical systems in buildings, energy and lighting audits and develop retrofit strategies and sustainable design development and optimisation through building energy modelling and daylight/artificial light design.
