Natalie co-leads the Institute of Health Informatics Phenomics Group.  Natalie has more than 20 years’ experience managing complex research programmes involving large linked electronic health record (EHR) data.  She currently manages the Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) national Phenomics Implementation projects across 6 UK sites and leads on facilitating research collaborations for the CALIBER platform (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/health-informatics/caliber).  Her research interests include creating and evaluating novel computational methods for risk prediction, data modelling and phenotyping in structured EHR and other clinical and genomic data.  Natalie is also responsible for enabling partnerships and collaborations and leads on patient and public engagement for the Institute.  She was responsible for establishing the Clinical Cohorts in Coronary disease Collaboration (4C), a DNA bio-resource linked to hospital EHR, questionnaire data and health outcomes for >3000 consented patients and member of GENIUS-CHD, an international consortium of 63 clinical cohorts containing CHD patients and DNA to associate genetic variants with subsequent events.

Research Summary

Natalie's research focuses on two main areas: (1) exploiting the scale and phenotypic resolution of linked electronic health record data from primary and secondary care and national registries to accelerate translational research; and (2) working with patients and the public to understand their views, expectations and concerns around use of health data for research and communicate the value and use of data for research. 

Teaching Summary

Natalie delivers teaching for UCL's Masters courses including the MSc in Health Data Analytics and MSc in Heath Informatics and other workshops and courses including the UCL Institute of Health Informatics annual short courses.
