Dr Nicola Moretti profile picture

Nicola works as Lecturer in BIM and Management at the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction and as Research Associate in Infrastructure Information Management at the Institute for Manufacturing, University of Cambridge, with the Asset Management Group. He is also Research Associate at the Hughes Hall and previously was part of the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB), where he focused on several aspects of the devising and developing built environment DTs. Nicola completed the PhD at the Architecture, Built Environment and Construction Engineering Department at Politecnico di Milano. The doctoral research aimed at reengineering asset management business processes, through new information management capabilities offered by digital tools. During the PhD he also focused on improved information management for use phase of the assets and GIS/BIM integration for Facility and Asset Management.
Research Summary

My research interest concerns information systems innovation for achieving higher safety, sustainability and resilience in the built environment. A large part of my work concerns Digital Twins (DTs). Within this context, I focus on (i) digital twin-based Asset Information Management (e.g., using BIM, GIS data modelling techniques, IoT, etc.); (ii) Asset and Facility Management process innovation (iii) DT-based-decision support tools (addressing interdisciplinarity and multiple scales of the built environment). I also work closely with industry in the asset information management, requirement engineering, business process reengineering fields.
