BIO
I am currently a Associate Professor (Education) in Financial Computing in the Department of Computer Science, the Deputy Director of the Centre for Blockchain Technologies and the Programme Director of the MSc Financial Technology. I am a Guest Lecturer in the School of Management and teach in the UCL-Peking MBA programme.
My research interests lie in emerging technologies and financial technology (fintech). Most recently, I have been engaged in research related to bibliometrics, blockchain and ESG topics. Previously my research has been in the blockchain and supply chain and blockchain and energy. My interests also lie in Decentralised Finance and Central Bank Digital Currencies. I have published many journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, and books, given many conference presentations and talks, and participated in podcasts. My research work has had a global impact, utilised by government stakeholders and businesses to inform on regulation, policy and strategy.
My teaching focuses on financial technology, machine learning and blockchain technology at the post-graduate, MBA, and executive MBA levels. I have also authored a MOOC on the FutureLearn platform titled "Introduction to Blockchain Technology and Applications" which has had thousands of students take the course.
I consult with global stakeholders, including leading financial services institutions, Central Banks, government departments and regulators on policy, regulation, implementation and strategy.
I also maintain a part-time role in industry. I am a Director of and Co-Founder of the DLT Science Foundation. I was the Chief Data Officer of Twig, a new sustainable challenger bank has won numerous awards for its innovative personal and business banking approach. Whilst there, I led Data Science and Operations and helped launch the bank in the UK, USA and Italy. Previously I have worked with fintech startups and was an Investment Banker with HSBC. I am a Chartered Financial Analyst.
