Biography

I am a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist at University College Hospital London with a specialist interest in early endoscopic detection and resection of cancer in the gastrointestinal tract. I am also a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) and part of the Surgical Robot Vision Research Group. I studied medicine at University College London graduating with a distinction in both clinical sciences and practice alongside a 1st Class Honours intercalated degree in Pharmacology. I was awarded the A.J. Clark Prize for the best overall performance and placed on the prestigious Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement. I subsequently gained a specialist gastroenterology training post in London after ranking 1st nationally out of 200 candidates as part of a competitive process. I was previously awarded the young clinical and translational scientist of the year by the British Society of Gastroenterology.

My research focuses on the clinical translation of artificial intelligence in endoscopy and gastroenterology. The interdisciplinary research at WEISS has led to the successful development of AI software that is being used in clinical practice during colonoscopy. The work has led to follow on large grant funding in the UK and Europe.  I have published numerous international initiatives related to the effective validation and implementation of AI solutions. I also serve as an expert member on AI working groups for international endoscopy societies and act as co-editor for the reference textbook ‘AI in Clinical Medicine’ aimed at healthcare professionals.
