Efstathia is a Dietitian, graduated from the Department of Dietetics and Nutritional Science, Harokopio University, Athens. She then continued her studies with an MSc Clinical and Public Health Nutrition at UCL. Following her passion for research she started her PhD degree at Harokopio University investigating the effects of a nutritional supplement on the clinical course of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
After completing her doctorate studies, she was seconded to Sanofi (Diabetes Research) in Frankfurt to study the effects of a nutritional supplement on a mouse model of steatohepatits using molecular biology protocols as an Experienced Researcher under the Horizon 2020 funded project, MAST4HEALTH. In the context of the same project she was then seconded to BIOTECHVANA & FISABIO in Valencia, where she worked in different experimental and sequence analysis protocols to investigate human gut microbiome alterations in chronic inflammatory diseases.
She later joined the Department of Diabetes at King's College London as a Research Coordinator for a clinical study on the effect of metabolic surgery on non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (weight-dependent and weight-independent effects). Following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic she also worked as a Research Coordinator for a project investigating the possible bi-directional relationship between COVID-19 and diabetes.
In 2021, Dr Papada joined UCL as a Lecturer in Nutrition and one of the programme co-leads for the MSc Dietetics (pre-registration).
Efstathia’s main research interest are focused around:
Bioavailability and health effects of phytochemicals and natural dietary supplements
Effects of phytochemicals and dietary elements on oxidative, stress, inflammatory mechanisms and gut microbiota
Effect of diet and phytochemicals on Inflammatory Bowel Disease and NAFLD
Obesity
