Research Summary

I'm interested in immune-regulation in the eye: specifically, 1) the regulation of autoimmune-mediated inflammation including T cell, myeloid and complement mediated responses 2) Gene therapy delivery of anti-inflammatory cytokines into the eye and 3) the host immune response to stem-cell derived transplanted photoreceptors and RPE cells as a treatment for retinal degeneration. My work includes the pharmacological modulation of T cells, AAV and Lentiviral vector local delivery of anti-inflammatory genes in the eye and investigations into the role of Annexin A1 and SIRT1 (in collaboration with GSK) in the abrogation / resolution of inflammation. I also retain an interest in B cell and antibody responses during Malaria infection from my past work in generating transgenic knock-in B cell receptor mice specific for a surface protein of the Malaria parasite.
