Biography

Peter Domone is a senior lecturer in concrete technology. He spent seven years as a research engineer at Taylor Woodrow Construction before joining the academic staff at UCL in 1979. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Member of the Institute of Concrete Technology.

Research Summary

His current research interests centre around the subject of self-compacting concrete, with an emphasis on testing procedures, rheology, mix design and, currently, the more extensive use additions, secondary and recycled materials. This grew out of work on high performance concrete, both high strength and high consistence concrete. 

He was a member of the European consortium for the Testing-SCC project, whose work from 2001-4 lead to the introduction of new European standards for testing methods (see link above), and was a co-author of a recent major text on SCC (see link above).

Teaching Summary
Peter teaches courses on materials in the first three years of the department's BEng and MEng programmes, looks after the Constructionarium field course for second year students each June and supervises third year and MSc research projects in concrete technology. His teaching interests have resulted in contributing the section on concrete to the 2nd (1994) edition of the undergraduate text 'Construction Materials' (ed JM Illston) and to editing and contributing to the 3rd (2001) and 4th (2010) editions (see link above). 

He is also a course tutor on the web-based Advanced Concrete Technology Diploma course of the Institute of Concrete Technology.
