Dr. Qiuchen Lu became a Lecturer in Digital Built Assetand Facility Management at the Bartlett School of Construction and ProjectManagement, University College London (UCL), since August 2019. Before joiningin UCL, Qiuchen was a research associate based at Asset Management Group,Institute for Manufacturing (IfM), and also worked at the Centre for SmartInfrastructure and Construction (CSIC) and Centre of Digital Built Britain(CDBB), Department of Engineering, the University of Cambridge. Dr. Lu mainlyfocused on the project ‘Digital Twin (DT) Project’ in building and city levels inCambridge. A dynamic DT with multi-layered information models was developed tointegrate heterogeneous data sources, support intelligent cloud-based dataquery, provide smarter AI-based decision-making processes and further bridgethe gap between human relationships with buildings/regions via a moreintelligent, visual and sustainable channels. She received her MPhil degreefrom the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the PhD degree inthe University of Hong Kong in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

Dr. Lu is currently an Associate Member of ASCE (TheAmerican Society of Civil Engineers) and the Editor (Chinese Language) ofBuilding Information Model (BIM) Dictionary, BIMe INITIATIVE. She is thereviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, such as Automation inConstruction, ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, ASCE Journal ofManagement in Engineering etc.

Research Summary

Qiuchen's research interests focus on (1) automation and digitisation in asset & facility management (e.g., digital twin (DT) in city and building levels, image processing, IoT, AR/VR); (2) data-driven techniques (e.g., ML/AI, data processing techniques, cloud-based computing technologies); and (3) asset & facility management innovation (e.g., activity theory-based analysis and dialectical system model).

Teaching Summary

Qiuchen mainly contributes in three modules: BCPM0060 – Introduction to the Built Environment, BARC0092 – Making Cities and BCPM0071, Professional Skills for Project Management. She is also the deputy programme lead for the MSc Digital Innovation in Built Asset Management (DIBAM).
