Rebecca has been on leave from her academic post since 2014 to set up and run Education Datalab, a research venture supported by FFT Education Ltd. Education Datalab brings together a group of expert researchers who turn curiosity about education into quantitative analysis.

Prior to this, Rebecca was Reader in Economics of Education here at UCL Institute of Education. She is a former secondary school teacher.

Research Summary

Rebecca's principal research interests lie within the economics of schooling and effect of government policies on school behaviour and performance. Past research includes studies of school admissions policies and parental choice of school; school accountability and governance; the role of faith schools in state education; and competition between schools.

For the past few years, Rebecca has been studying the teacher labour market, with a particular focus on the early career choices of teachers.

She specialises in quantitative evaluation methods and tends to use very large scale datasets, such as the National Pupil Database, the Longitudinal Survey of Young People in England and the School Workforce Census.
