Research Summary

My career as applied economist started in 1998 after the completion of a Master in Economics at Bocconi University, Milan, Italy: I was researcher for a independent Italian think-tank, the Institute for Social Research, Milan; economist at the Office of the Chief Economist, FIAT Holding; quantitative analyst at the investment banking branch of Fideuram Capital SpA, an Italian major bank. This three-year (1998 - 2001) job span in the private sector was indeed very formative to build up expertise, skills and passion within the entrepreneurial activity of three very different business models, consultancy services, automotive industry and investment banking, respectively. My research/academic oriented career as applied-micro economist started when I enrolled in the Ph.D. in Economics and Management (taught in English) at Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa, Italy, in September 2002. I was in London as research assistant at the Center for New and Emerging Markets, London Business School. From September 2004 to May 2005 I was visiting research scholar at the Department of Economics, University of Berkeley, USA. I have been intern at the Office of the Chief Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from June to October 2005, where I was co-authoring the 4th Chapter of the EBRD Transition Report on ``The Performance of Firms in Transition''. Finally, I successfully defended my Ph.D. thesis in December 2006.
In the last few years I had the occasion to travel and present papers at conferences in Continental Europe, Russian Federation, USA and UK as well as to participate in projects about EU and Russian Federation economic performance. These experiences gave me the opportunity to contribute to the understanding of some open issues in the field of comparative as well as development economics, with a focus on applied industrial and corporate change.

Specialties: My broad field of specialisation is applied-microeconomics and my specific fields are comparative and development economics, labour economics and applied micro-econometrics.
