Research Summary
Richard
is a Professor of Statistics at UCL, with more than 20 years of experience of developing and applying statistical methods for the environmental sciences. His expertise includes time series analysis,
space-time data and uncertainty analysis, in particular the combination of evidence from multiple sources. Specific activities include:
- Modelling and analysis of historical climate data, with a particular focus on
hydrological applications;
- The use and interpretation of climate projections, for purposes such as the assessment of the impacts of climate change;
- Assessment of risk and uncertainty from natural hazards such as
earthquakes, tsunami, extreme weather and floods;
- The analysis of environmental time series data, with particular emphasis
on trend detection and quantification;
- The development of statistical inference procedures that are suitable for routine application by non-specialists to large and complex data sets.
