I am an NIHR-appointed BRC fellow in cardio-oncology conducting research into cardioprotection in cancer chemotherapy (the ERIC-ONC trial) as part of my cardiology research doctorate thesis (research MD) supervised by Prof Derek Yellon and Dr Malcolm Walker.  I am a cardiology specialist registrar and support the acute and outpatient cardio-oncology service at UCLH; I was previously appointed as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in medicine and cardiology, at UCL.

I received my training in general internal medicine in the northwest Thames London deanery, part of the Hammersmith / Imperial College academic foundation programme rotation under Prof Darrel Francis, after qualifying in medicine from University College London.

During my medical school training, I was a part-time research fellow in the Derek Gibson department of echocardiography at the Royal Brompton Hospital under Prof Michael Henein, Prof John Pepper, Dr Wei Li, Dr Alison Duncan, Dr Christine O'Sullivan Thorp and Dr Derek Gibson.  We researched 3D echocardiographic techniques for mitral valve disease and developed a tri-partite 3D model of RV function in pulmonary hypertension.

In my former life as an engineer, I studied medical imaging at Queens' College Cambridge under Prof Richard Prager.  For my research Master's (MPhil thesis), we published research on a sub-resolution image-based high frequency (5 to 10 MHz probe) ultrasound-based technique to measure blood velocity.  I graduated with first-class honours in computer engineering from Warwick and also studied EECS at Berkeley.

I have worked in computer engineering and IT systems.  I was the first UK engineer employee of Shazam, available as the standard for music recognition on iPhone and Android phones.

In my limited free time, I enjoy making my two boys laugh.  I chair the research working group as a trustee on the board of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (PWSA-UK).  We are keen to support research in Prader-Willi syndrome - currently a rare incurable genetic appetite disorder causing life threatening obesity, developmental delay and behavioural problems.

Cardiology Clinical Research Fellow, UCL
Research Doctorate (research MD) student in the Hatter Cardiovascular Institute
specialty research in the cardio-oncology research theme for cardioprotection from chemotherapy under Prof Derek Yellon and Dr Malcolm Walker.

We are investigating novel techniques to protect the heart from sub-clinical myocardial injury due to anthracycline chemotherapy.  This research theme encompasses basic science research with in the Hatter Institute, together with bedside clinical research at UCLH and the Macmillan Cancer Centre.    The ERIC-ONC trial (Effect of Remote Ischaemic Conditioning in ONCology patients undergoing chemotherapy) is now underway and recruiting cancer patients.

I have previously conducted research and published in cardiac imaging and 3D ultrasound.
