Biography
Originally a cosmic ray physicist Robert Speller moved into physics applied to medicine in 1973. Made Head of Radiation Physics in 1983 he has directed the development of radiation physics into three major areas - scattered photon fields, sensors and novel imaging systems.

Research Summary
Robert Speller is Head of the Radiation Physics Group. His research interests cover scattered photon fields, novel sensors and detector systems and the development of imaging systems. The application areas are in medical diagnosis and treatment, security and industrial imaging.
Teaching Summary
Robert Speller currently teaches on undergraduate courses, masters courses, postgraduate medical courses and research degrees.
He introduced the first undergraduate degree in medical pysics in 1980 and has been involved in the teaching and organisation of the MSc courses within the Department since 1976. Most recently he developed the new structure for the Departments MSc courses that will enable it to adapt to changing requirements such as Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC) in the NHS.
