Biography

In my current role at UCL I run the Motor Executive Cognitive Interaction (MECI) Lab and am Programme Lead for the ESRC-accredited MSc in Developmental and Educational Psychology, and Director of the Motor Executive Cognitive Interaction (MECI) Lab in the Department of Psychology and Human Development.


In addition, I am a member of the Management Committee for the Centre for Educational Neuroscience (CEN)


I am also a Chartered Member and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.

Research Summary

My research focus is on working memory/executive function as it relates to academic outcomes such as reading and mathematics. I am also interested in the relationships between executive functions and dyslexia in children and adults.


Current PhD Students:


  1. Louise Livingstone (Developmental relationships between motor control and executive function in early years environments)
  2. Yasin Arslan (How neuroscientific understanding of learning can influence SEN teachers’ decisions)
  3. Olivia Yuan (Children’s executive function in early STEM education: An educational robotics intervention in primary School)
  4. Qiuyu Du (Relationships between mind wandering, working memory capacity and creativity)
  5. Zoe Price (Teachers’ perspectives of executive functions and classroom support)

Teaching Summary

I lecture in cognitive psychology, educational neuroscience, research methods and statistics for the psychology undergraduate and Masters programmes.


Previously, at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London I ran various modules for the MSc Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health distance learning course. 


Prior to that, at London South Bank University I taught undergraduate and post-graduate students in neuropsychology, brain and behaviour development, developmental disorders, memory development, and quantitative research methods.
