Research Summary
Broad area of interest is computational linguistics, in particular phonetics, phonology and speech science. For my PhD I applied phonological theory (government phonology, element theory) to multi-lingual automatic speech recognition.
More recently, I have been involved in audio-visual speech technology (talking heads, avatars) for assistive applications, e.g. visualising telephone speech as lip-reading support for hearing impaired people, and currently "Avatar Therapy", an avatar-based tool for treating auditory hallucinations. See http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/project/avtherapy/.
Teaching Summary

Part-time tutor in German-English translation since 2007, formerly at Imperial College, now transferred to UCL. Includes dissertation supervision in translation studies.

Occasional external examining in speech techology / comp. ling.
