Biography

After completing my degree in psychology at Cardiff University in 1997, I went on to complete a PhD in psycholinguistics at Cardiff University in 2000. I subsequently took up a post-doctoral position with Professors Robert Howard and Richard Brown at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London (KCL) from 2000 to 2005. I was awarded a Wellcome Trust Value in People Fellowship award in 2005. I completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, KCL in 2009. After working at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability, I returned to the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, KCL in 2010. I moved to the Division of Psychiatry at University College London in 2016.

Research Themes
Research Summary

My main research interests are in evaluating psychological interventions such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and mindfulness-based therapies for: i) older people with mental health conditions (including anxiety and depression); ii) people with neurodegenerative diseases (including dementia and motor neuron disease); iii) carers of people with neurodegenerative diseases; and iv) people with physical health conditions. Other research interests include examining the assessment of frailty in older people with mental health conditions, and evaluating psychological interventions for this population.

Teaching Summary

I supervise both undergraduates and postgraduates (MSc, PhD, and DClinPsy). I provide teaching on mindfulness for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at UCL. I will also be providing teaching on mindfulness for MBBS students at UCL in 2020.
