I am a Professor of Translational Psychology at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. I am an honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist, a member of the Health Professions Council and Fellow of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy. I jointly lead the ICH GOS MentalHealth Strategic Initiative. I founded the Charlie Waller Institute of Evidenced Based Psychological Treatment in 2007 at the University of Reading and was its director until 2012. I am an advisor for the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust, Patron of 'No Panic' and recipient of prizes such as the BMJ Mental Health Team of the Year, Positive Practice 'Making a Difference' Award, British Psychological Society Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology in Practice and Marsh Award for Mental Health for research that has made a difference to clinical practice. Research Summary

My clinical research interests include the development, evaluation, dissemination and implementation of evidence-based psychological treatments across the age range. I have particular expertise in obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, eating disorders and perfectionism. My current role is focused on common mental health disorders in the context of chronic illness in children and young people.

Teaching Summary

As part of the work at the University of Reading (2007-2012), the Charlie Waller Institute developed a range of postgraduate certificate and diploma courses, largely associated with the Government's 'Improving Access to Psychological Therapies' programme. This included training in 'low intensity' and 'high intensity' psychological interventions, leadership training, and training for supervisors. Together with key colleagues and collaborators, we won contracts to deliver training both for the adult IAPT programme and also for the Children and Young People's training programme. Our training also involved ensuring the world leaders in developing psychological interventions provided training for practitioners as part of CPD as well as students learning new therapeutic techniques. The Charlie Waller Institute won a Training and Learning award from the University of Reading in 2010. I currently teach on a wide range of topics and courses across the UK and abroad, including IAPT courses, Clinical Psychology Doctorate courses and Masters courses. I have been an external examiner for Doctoral Psychology Courses and examiner for national and international PhD students. I have a strong interest in developing the careers of the next generation of clinical researchers and enjoy supervising PhD students as well as the doctoral research of trainee clinical psychologists. I am keen to ensure the dissemination of best-practice in mental health and am co-Director of Bespoke Mental Health (www.bespokementalhealth.co.uk). I have given talks on a variety of mental health topics to the general public, including schools.
