Dr Rui Tang is a Lecturer in Smart Buildings and Digital Engineering at Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, UCL from February 2021. He conducts interdisciplinary works to facilitate the low-carbon technology transitions of multi-scale energy systems, spanning from building HVAC design & control, load prediction, demand response and electricity pricing to large-scale modelling and data-driven techniques. Before joining UCL, he worked at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) as Senior Scientific Engineering Associate. Rui received his PhD degree in Building Services Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2017, and Master degree in Architecture and Civil Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology in 2014.
Rui is the Guest Editor of the Sustainability journal and the review board member of the academic journal "Science and Technology for the Built Environment" and invited reviewers of several peer-reviewed journals, such as Applied Energy, Energy and Buildings, etc. His research was awarded the 2018 best paper of ICAE (International Conference of Applied Energy).
If you are interested in the applications of PhD studentship and postdoctoral fellowship, please feel free to contact me.

Dr Tang has conducted many research projects granted by UKRI, the US Department of Energy, Hong Kong Research Grant Council, and industrial partners. His research interests focus on:
- Building energy efficiency and grid-building interactions;
- Decarbonisation technologies of energy systems;
- Machine learning and data-driven techniques;
- Multi-scale energy system modelling for design and control issues;
- Climate change mitigation and adaptation in the built environment;
- Zero energy buildings and renewable energy system integration.
