Research Summary
Research Interests: CO2 Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), Process Simulation, Techno-economic Analysis, Chemical Kinetics, Pollutant Emissions and Mitigation

I perform multi-scale modelling of integrated CCUS systems for assessment of their performance and cost. Energy intensive sectors like the iron and steel industry are large-scale emitters of CO2, requiring urgent attention for global warming mitigation. A range of viable technology options for mitigating industrial CO2 emissions through CCUS exist, which include environmentally benign future generation solutions that offer significant cost reductions compared to best available techniques. These technologies require individual assessments in order to identify forerunner solutions and develop the design specifications. Process simulation tools are used to perform systematic cost and performance analyses of the combination of operations within a CCUS system, ultimately leading to processes with optimal configurations and operating conditions. Models for CCUS processes are parameterised and validated through collaboration with experimentalists and industrial partners; notably, Johnson Matthey, Swerim, Tata Steel UK and British Steel.
