Research Summary
I maintain a broad range of research interests within visual science spanning the disciplines of psychophysics, computational modelling, functional imaging and applied research. The common thread running through my work is an interest in visual integration. I study how the brain takes a fragmented representation of the world - a patchwork of local neural-response in the retina or cortex - and derives complex global information suitable for guiding behaviour. There is an emerging consensus in neuroscience that an understanding of local-global processing is the key to understanding the visual brain. I study this process and how different visual disorders affect it.
