Research Summary

My current research interests fall into three major areas:

1.  Renal transplantation: We are involved in innovative drug trials concerning new anti-rejection therapies and assessment of children post-renal transplantation, examining the fine balance between rejection and infection (and avoidance of EBV-driven post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder).

2.  Systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) and vasculitis:  We are studying the aetiopathogenesis, management and outcome of childhood onset SLE, lupus nephritis and vasculitis.  There are currently several projects underway with my colleagues, Professors Paul Brogan and Neil Sebire and Drs Kjell Tullus and Clarissa Pilkington looking at treatment of SLE and vasculitis with novel agents and the clinicopathological correlations of lupus nephritis.

3.  Hypertension: As part of the Renovascular Hypertension team, we are examining the management and long-term prognosis of children with renovascular hypertension. We have performed studies examining the genetic linkage of childhood renovascular hypertension with Professors Robert Kleta, Detlef Bockenhauer, Adrian Woolf, Dr Kjell Tullus and Ms Eileen Brennan.
