Biography

I am a Lecturer in Education (Teaching) with responsibility in a number of roles. I am Programme Leader for the Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP) - a two year dual award (MA in Muslim Societies and Civilisations and PGDip Teaching and Reflective Practice) postgraduate course, delivered in partnership with the Institute of Ismaili Studies. STEP was founded in 2007 with the Institute of Ismaili Studies designed to support the development of educators to teach the Institute’s Secondary Curriculum in a way that inspires and motivates international secondary students. Alongside this, I am Module Leader for Leading Learning in the Ismaili Contexts (LLIC). I am also Chair of the PGDip Teaching and Reflective Practice Exam Board. I work on a second Master’s programme, as tutor and dissertation supervisor to students studying the MA in Education. Prior to becoming STEP Programme Lead, I was a Professional Tutor with Teach First. Previous experience in Higher Education institutions include the role of mentoring School Direct students in Luton schools, and leading on the redesign of the BEd Year 2 Curriculum whilst working at the University of Bedfordshire. Preceding this, I was a tutor working with History PGCE students at the University of Exeter.

Research Summary

I am involved in the IOE Grading Task and Finish Group; reviewing current grade descriptors for the increasing range of assessment opportunities on our programmes. I am also working in collaboration with the diverse international Ismaili cohort of STEP students, reviewing feedback mechanisms and supporting the development of effective critical writing practices on the programme.
