Steve is part of the CREDS (Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions) consortium working on models of energy use in the building stock. He leads the 3DStock modelling work within the Building Stock Lab. at the UCL Energy Institute.
Prior to this he worked on the the RCUK Centre for Energy Epidemiology (CEE) creating a 3D model of the building stock (3DStock). The model integrated energy use in the building stock of England and Wales by using Valuation Office Agency (VOA) data, spatial data, address matching and other data sources to construct three-dimensional models of buildings, premises, activities and energy use.
He has many years of experience of using GIS and the geographic component of problems as a bridge or link between different disciplines.
Prior to working at the UCL Energy Institute he ran a consultancy company for 6 years working on GIS and GeoVisualisation solutions for clients like the UK Green Building Council, English Heritage, Wates, The Building Exploratory and the Antarctic Heritage Trust.
Before this he worked for the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis where he was involved in projects visualising air pollution, feeding 3D weather prediction models, Land Use and Transportation models (PROPOLIS), 3D urban models (GLA) and city modelling (Tyndall Centre).
Prior to this he worked for the British Antarctic Survey as a cartographer.
