Biography

I am a postdoctoral researcher and speech and language therapist. My interdisciplinary research interests relate to the areas of human computer interaction, multimodal communication and assistive technology.

I have worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS (2004-2017) in special schools, mainstream schools, early years settings, community outpatient clinics and a specialist tertiary outpatient hospital, providing interventions for a children aged 0 - 19 years old. My clinical specialisms span autism assessment, augmentative and alternative assessment, paediatric dysphagia and complex needs. Outside of the NHS, I have worked in supporting capacity building in under-resourced settings overseas and in rural settings in the north of Cyprus and Islamabad, Pakistan.

Research Groups
Research Summary

Motivated by my clinical practice, my doctoral research investigated communication involving children with severe speech and physical impairments and their social groups. The aim was to consider how technologies can be designed so that they foreground children's multimodal communication capabilities, values and priorities in the early stages of the design process.

Teaching Summary

I have worked as a teaching fellow on the MA in Education and Technology course, contributing to the teaching and formative feedback of the Digital Design Thinking and Making (DDTM) module.
