Prior to and during my doctoral studies, I worked as a Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS (2004-2017). I have worked in clinical speech and language therapy roles supporting children with neurodisabilities associated with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, genetic disorders, autism, cognitive impairments and other conditions. I have worked in special schools, mainstream schools, early years settings, community outpatient clinics and a specialist tertiary outpatient hospital, providing interventions for a children aged 0 - 19 years with complex communication needs and/or feeding difficulties (dysphagia).

Separately, I have an interest in supporting capacity building in under-resourced settings overseas and have in the past worked in rural settings in the north of Cyprus and Islamabad, Pakistan.

Research Summary

My PhD research took a design orientation for understanding communication involving children with severe speech and physical impairments and their social groups. The aim was to inform new ways of designing for digitally mediated communication by foregrounding children's values and priorities in the early stages of the design process.

Teaching Summary

I am currently a teaching fellow on the MA in Education and Technology course, contributing to the teaching and formative feedback of the Digital Design Thinking and Making (DDTM) module.
