Biography

I am Professor of Global Public Health, and lead a research theme analysing the use of evidence in policy processes, particularly in relation to gender. I have lived and worked for much of the past 20 years in Asia, where I have gathered evidence, partnered with a variety of stakeholders and helped develop policy for programmes focusing on gender, sexual health, non-communicable diseases and human rights. I work closely with national governments, civil society organisations, research partners, WHO and UNFPA in Asia and the Middle East.

I am co-Director of Global Health 50/50: https://globalhealth5050.org/  - the leading initiative on accountability for gender equality in global health. I co-Chair the Lancet Commission on Gender and Global Health, and am a Commissioner for the UK's Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
