Biography

Siana's research focuses on the cardiovascular and metabolic determinants of exercise capacity and physical function. She is interested in developing non-invasive methods for measuring skeletal muscle function using Near-infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS).


Siana currently holds a postdoctoral position at UCL and is based within the MRC Unit of Lifelong Health and Ageing. She received her PhD from the Institute of Cardiovascular Science at UCL based within the department of Population Science and Experimental Medicine. Siana was awarded a BSc with honours in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh in 2006 and an MSc in Public Health, Physical Activity and Nutrition from the University of Bristol in 2007.


Siana also spent time working as a cardiac and exercise physiologist at Imperial College London where she gained BSE accreditation in trans-thoracic Echocardiography, undertook training in cardio-pulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and gained experience working in clinical trials.

Teaching Summary

I have been supervising iBSc and MSc student dissertations from the Institute of cardiovascular Science (ICS) since 2016. I currently co-supervise 1 PhD student and have previously supervised first year PhD rotation projects.


I have extensive technical experience in cardiovascular measurements and am heavily involved in teaching and training research assistants in the skills necessary for data collection in a multitude of studies ongoing at Bloomsbury Centre for Clinical Phenotyping (BCCP).
