Dr Martynov has received his BSc and MSc in Technical Physics from Moscow Power Engineering Institute, and after obtaining PhD in 2005 he has been involved in several research projects at the University of Brighton and Mechanical and Chemical Engineering Departments at UCL, where he was developing and applying mathematical models of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and fluid-structure interaction to improve the design, safety and efficiency of operation of complex systems, ranging from Diesel fuel injectors and carbon dioxide transmission pipelines to ultrasound contrast agent microbubbles.


Dr Martynov’ research interests are in the modelling and simulation of fluid dynamics and heat/mass transfer during normal operation and accidental failure of high-pressure pipelines transporting hazardous super-critical fluids and compressed gases, such as natural gas and ethylene in petrochemical industry and carbon dioxide in the carbon capture and sequestration projects.
- Coordinating the MSc Chemicla Process Engineering Research Project module CENG0032.
- Organising and running MSc research project progress presentations.
- Thesis writing lectures and workshops taught to the final year MSc students.
- MSc students supervision on the Process Plant Design Project module CENG0016.
- Supervising and mentoring MSc and MEng students on the research and design projects.
