Research Summary

Serena obtained her PhD from SOAS University of London in 2018. Her research interests reflect a multidisciplinary approach to social sciences, where macroeconomic theory and econometric analysis are combined to political economy, institutional and historical perspectives.  Her main research objectives aim at exploring how economic policy draws political order, with a closer eye towards quantity-constrained economies and fragile states.

Currently, she is a research fellow at the South African Reserve Bank and a consultant to UNU-WIDER, where she is exploring the effects of monetary policy on economic inequality.

During her doctoral studies, she also worked as Teaching Assistant at SOAS, QMUL, and Birkbeck College, on a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in finance and economics.
