Biography

Susan joined the academic staff in the Bartlett School Planning in mid-January 2009. She has held previous posts within the School of City and Regional Planning at Cardiff University and the Department of Geography and Environment at the London School of Economics. Susan has an interdisciplinary background in human geography (PhD, LSE 2006), community planning (MES, York University 1999) and environmental studies (BES, York University 1997).

Research Summary

Susan's research interests include the relational geographies of urban and suburban development, with a particular interest in the comparative understandig of planning and development cultures in international contexts. Her research focuses on urban development and governance models and the circulation of so called 'best practices'. Recent projects include an examination of New Urbanism as a global movement, the implications of platform urbanism for understanding and planning for local urban change, urban data cultures and housing policy and the 'local' dimensions of content governance on social media platforms. 

Teaching Summary

Susan is the Post Graduate Programmes Exam Board Chair and MSc Dissertation Tutor. 

She currently teaches within core modules offered at the MSc level and 1st and 2nd year undergraduate modules:
