Biography
I studied Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, specialising in hydrology, hydrogeology and geochemistry. I completed a PhD in stable isotope hydrogeochemistry 2011 at the University of East Anglia, then went on to do a postdoc in stable isotope biogeochemistry in the Department for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, at Cornell University, USA. On returning to the UK, I worked as an Analytical Facilities Technician at the University of East Anglia, working mainly in the stable isotope laboratory. I started at the Institute of Archaeology at UCL in 2022, as a research fellow on the NERC funded Iso-Wetlands project with Rhiannon Stevens.
Research Summary
Stable isotope hydrogeochemistry and biogeochemistry; stable isotopes of nitrogen and oxygen in nitrate to establish nitrate sources and microbial transformations that lead to the production of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide; using stable isotopes of sulphur to investigate how, under anaerobic conditions in flooded soil, sulphur isotopic composition is altered by the soil microbial community, and whether this change is reflected in plants grown on waterlogged soil.
