Sarah Worton is the Subject Leader for the Social Science PGCE at UCL Institute of Education. Her background is in teaching Social Sciences in Secondary School before moving to Higher Education in 2012. Her research interests are in education policy and she is currently working on her PhD which is investigating the impact of current policy in ITE on schools and universities in England. She has co-designed and co-delivered a comprehensive induction programme for new teacher educators at UCL Institute of Education and abroad and is interested in understanding how those new to the profession are supported in developing a their professional identity. She is also working with a small group of practising teachers and tutors looking at how the sociology curriculum is enacted in the classroom by teachers and how a socially just subject specific pedgagogy might act as a way to empower learners. In 2019-20 she led a Knowledge Exchange of Project on new government Relationships and Sex Education guidance, working with partnership schools and Secondary PGCE student teachers.

I have been working in Higher Education since 2012. Currently I am the Subject Leader for the PGCE in Social Science and I have previously taught on a PG Certificate, Diploma and MA in University Teaching and Learning. Prior to working in Higher Education, I worked as an Advanced Skills Teacher for nine years in secondary school.
