Figo Lau is an economist specialising in econometrics and financial economics. He worked as a researcher at UCL on the ESRC project entitled “The Financialisation of Urban Development and Associated Financial Risks in China”.
Figo holds a PhD in Economics from Royal Holloway, University of London after being awarded an MPhil in Economics from the University of Oxford and a BSc from RHUL. As a certified ARPM (advanced risk and portfolio manager), Figo aims to apply network theory, machine learning and econometric techniques to study renewable energy financing, sustainable investing and low-carbon transition risks.
Figo Lau explores the main drivers of renewable investment risks (real and perceived) in developing countries, briefly survey risk-management approaches and metrics for assessing risk, and the potential impact of public risk mitigation instruments on renewable energy finance in developing countries.
With advanced computational techniques, the research will constitute frontiers of project investment suitability, identify clusters of risks that may be effectively mitigated together and evaluate the impact of mitigation instruments in improving investment probability in developing countries.
