Biography

I am a Research Fellow in the Social Research Institute and Institute for Global Health and an Associate Lecturer (Teaching) in the the Department of Education, Practice and Society. I joined UCL in October 2021 for my ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship ‘From ‘language learning as the key to integration’ to ‘language learning for enriching solidarities in diversity’’ after completing my MPhil and AHRC-funded PhD at the University of Cambridge. I currently hold a BERA Small Grants Award 'Learning for All?' and an IOE Early Career Impact Fellowship.

Research Summary

As a social scientist with a multidisciplinary background, I am interested in the lived experience of migrants and those seeking sanctuary and refuge. My research is situated at the nexus of migration and displacement, inequality, urban multiculture and diversity, language/language learning and the in- and exclusionary mechanisms of ‘integration’ processes. My work explores emergent alternative, innovative and dynamic forms of solidarity across difference – particularly in the context of the global city and postcolonial migrant metropolis.

My current research includes:

I am part of the international research network FORUM (Forced Migrants from Ukraine in Transnational Europe: between Personal Agency, Civil Society and the State)
