After completing a BSc in Microbiology in 1983, and until 1990 I was a research assistant in the Division of Bacteriology, NIBSC, London, testing and investigating the the pathogenicity, toxicity and immunogenicity of Bordetella pertussis in relation to the composition of pertussis (whooping cough) vaccines. During this time I completed a part-time MSc in Immunology. I then worked as a research assistant in the Division of Immunology at St Thomas’ Hospital, London,  investigating in-vitro leucocyte-endothelial cell interactions in retinal vasculitis, and completed my PhD in 1998. This was followed by a two year post-doctoral position studying intracellular T lymphocyte cytokine profiles in the aqueous humour of patients with anterior uveitis, in the Department of Clinical Opthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology, London.

Since June 2001 I have worked as a Research Fellow/Study coordinator for the UK Collaborative HIV Cohort (UK CHIC) Study in the Centre for Clinical Research, Epidemiology, Modelling and Evaluation within the Institute for Global Health at UCL.

Research Summary

Currently, I coordinate the UK Collaborative HIV Cohort (UK CHIC) Study which is a multi-centre cohort study that investigates the clinical outcomes, response to treatment and epidemic dynamics of HIV-1 in the UK. I have a broad interest in the topics of infection and immunity.
