Research Summary
Dr Smith's research focusses on hydro-acoustics and underwater radiated noise. He develops and uses numerical models to understand the physics of fluid-induced noise and develop designs and technology to reduce noise. 

He is also involved with acoustic measurements in the environment, looking at the sound levels produced by ships and other vessels and how to reduce the underwater radiated noise from marine vessels.

Teaching Summary
Dr Smith is the module coordinator for MECH0019 Ocean Engineering Fundamentals, and teaches part of MECH0066 Ship Dynamics and also provides support to the Submarine Design and Acquisition Course.
