Biography

I am a clinical academic cardiologist with specialist interest in valvular heart disease, heart failure and multimodality imaging. BHF Intermediate Clinical Research Fellow and Senior Lecturer in Cardiology at UCL; Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Health.

I obtained scholarships to study medicine at St. John’s College, Cambridge (First Class Honours) before moving to Imperial College London for my clinical studies and early clinical training. I then obtained an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Cardiology at UCL, and then successfully applied for NIHR Doctoral Fellowship (James Moon’s group at UCL) followed by a NIHR lecturer post. This allowed me to develop a successful BHF Intermediate Research Fellowship application, and I was appointed in 2019 Associate Professor in Cardiology at UCL and Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre, London.

Research Themes
Research Summary

I investigate myocardial fibrosis in aortic stenosis using cardiovascular magnetic resonance, cardiac CT and myocardial biopsies. My current work focuses on the mechanisms of excess mortality in patients with aortic stenosis despite successful valve replacement. My aim is to improve outcomes for patients with valvular heart disease.

Teaching Summary

I currently supervise four PhD student (2x primary; 2x secondary) and previously supervised 6 MSc students whom completed their MSc successfully (merit or distinction, and best thesis). I also lead the UCL Clinical Cardiology Module for the MSc Cardiovascular Sciences, which moved fully online due to COVID-19.
