I have had a varied career: travelling through Europe; working in IT after finishing my mathematics degree; being a primary career for my tree children whilst teaching music and tutoring in mathematics; teaching mathematics in South East London; and now teaching on the UCL Institute of Education Mathematics PGCE course.
I completed a my MA in Mathematics Education in 2019, with a dissertation that investigated difficulties Key Stage 5 pupils have making the transition from GCSE to GCE 'A' level mathematics courses, and how this is related to the gradual shift from considering mathematical routines and towards thinking more in terms of mathematical objects.
After many years of informally helping people with mathematics (and music), and then tutoring a wide range of mathematics students both privately and in schools, I formally trained at the UCL Institute of Education as a Secondary Mathematics Teacher, and went on to work teaching maths in a range of schools in South East London, specialising in teaching at Key Stage 5.
In 2020 I joined the Institute's Mathematics PGCE team, and have been teaching on that course and the Masters in Mathematics Education until the present.
