Research Summary

A global key challenge is the transition to a net-zero carbon society, which implies a massive shift to weather-dependent renewable energy sources. Therefore it is fundamental to consider their dynamics to design and operate resilient future energy systems that will meet emission targets. In this context, I developed with Prof. Mark Barrett the model ESTIMO, to simulate and optimise integrated (multi-vector) energy systems at the national and international scale. ESTIMO is a bottom-up operational socio-techno-economic model that simulates both supply and demand at hourly resolution using weather time series and social patterns. I use ESTIMO to provide insights on system dynamics and zero-carbon energy pathways for future scenarios within different projects and collaborating with multiple partners.

Teaching Summary
