I have worked in Speech Hearing and Phonetic Sciences since 2000 on various projects aimed at improving speech perception through cochlear implants and hearing aids. This has included attempts to improve the perception of voice pitch through cochlear implants; investigating the effects of carrier pulse rate on cochlear implant users' perception of speech-related acoustic properties; optimising the combination of a cochlear implant in one ear with residual acoustic hearing in the other ear, and investigating the factors underlying the particular difficulties in understanding speech in noise experienced by hearing-impaired listeners.

Hearing and speech. In particular, speech perception in hearing aid and cochlear implant users, speech perception in noise, psychoacoustics of hearing impairment, measures of listening effort.
