Following the completion of a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's in cognitive neuroscience, I worked for a number of years in an NHS R&D team studying dementia. During this time, I enjoyed using statistical analysis and academic writing skills to contribute to a number of publications. This was the most exciting and engaging aspect of my role, so I decided to apply for funding to undertake my PhD with Prof. Zuzana Walker and Dr. Natalie Marchant at UCL. I am pleased to say the funding was granted by The Dunhill Medical Trust and this enabled me to begin my studies in October 2018!
I am currently completing my PhD with Prof. Zuzana Walker and Dr. Natalie Marchant. My project encompasses my three main interests, namely mindfulness-based programs (MBPs,) cognitive disorders, and neuroimaging. My PhD will exploit data collected as part of the EC Horizon-2020 funded, pan-European 'SCD-Well' RCT to answer important questions pertaining to the effect of the MBP on cognition in individuals with subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Before starting these analyses, I led an international group of mindfulness experts in conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of the effects of MBPs on objective cognitive function in adults, and identified an effect specific to older adults. My forthcoming work exploits routine NHS memory clinic and neuroimaging data to build prognostic models for clinical outcomes in individuals with SCD.
