Biography

I am a Lecturer in Education & Technology and Head of the Learning Technologies Unit at the UCL Institute of Education, based at the UCL Knowledge Lab. My work includes the promotion and support of ICT use in higher education.

The Learning Technologies Unit provides academic support for e-learning and blended learning, including module design and development of pedagogic activities. We investigate new technologies and their usefulness for teaching at HE level, and consult on teaching with technologies, as well as evaluation of technology use in teaching.

As a trained Audio Engineer with a previous 10-year career as music and event producer, as well as music and broadcast industry trainer, I have significant experience in media production and large-scale events.

Research Summary

My research interests focus on synchronous audiographic conferencing, pedagogical models for real-time web-based learning, and media production.

I am also researching other areas of applied e-learning, for example Virtual Learning Environments, blended learning, e-portfolios, and collaborative learning.

Based on my background in contemporary arts, music, and the performing arts, I am interested in the concept of dramaturgy in education, and how it can be used to improve learning designs as well as staff development in the area of learning technologies.
