I am a lecturer working in the field of biomechanics and medical devices. I teach undergraduate and graduate students with a particular focus on engineering mathematics, biomechanics (fluids and solids) and design. I also supervise research projects in these areas.

My research interests lie in medical device development, and in particular the design of minimally invasive treatments for aneurysms and other diseases of the cardiovascular system. In addition to working with colleagues in the UK, I have collaborations in the USA, Canada, Germany, South Africa, and China. My other research interests include low-cost and user-centred design, self-deploying structures, flow stability, and both in-vitro and in-vivo models.

technique, known as Flow-T. Pre- (left) and post-intervention (right).
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic I was part of the engineering team that developed the UCL-Ventura CPAP breathing aid with University College Hospital and Mercedes-AMG HPP. This project saw 10,000 non-invasive ventilators supplied to the NHS and won the RAEng President’s Special Award for Pandemic Service, with the design also released open-source for non-profit use worldwide.
More info on the UCL-Ventura device is available here: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/covid19cpap
In Mechanical Engineering I act as the year coordinator/tutor for first year undergraduates and the coordinator of the department’s biomechanics minor modules. I also teach on the following courses:
