Veysel Apaydin is Lecturer in Art, Design and Museology at the IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society, Department of Culture, Communication and Media. He was a Research Associate at the EC Funded project, EMOTIVE, at the Department of Archaeology, University of York. He completed his PhD at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL. His doctoral thesis evaluated uses and abuses of cultural heritage, identity construction and the relationship between heritage, education and attitudes towards heritage, taking modern-day Turkey as its case study. He worked as an archaeologist and heritage consultant in the United Kingdom and Turkey, taught in heritage and museum studies and public archaeology courses, and coordinated MA course (Sources and Social Research Methods in Archaeology and Heritage) at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL. He is the author of 'Heritage, Education and Social Justice', published by Cambridge University Press. His next monograph ‘Narrating Heritage. Rights, Abuses and Cultural Resistance’ will be published in 2023 by Bloomsbury. He is the author of numerous articles and the editor of the volumes ‘Critical Perspectives on Cultural Memory and Heritage. Construction, Transformation and Destruction’ (2020); ‘Shared Knowledge, Shared Power. Engaging Local and Indigenous Heritage’ (2018). He is also currently editor of the heritage section of the Open Archaeology journal.

In this European Commission funded project, I worked with a range of specialists, from several different institutions, to build digital tools for museums and heritage sites (e.g. digital education kits, apps, VR) and carried out evaluations and testings. https://emotiveproject.eu
