I trained in Medicine, Paediatrics and Paediatric Neurology between Italy and United Kingdom. During my training I developed a deep interest to understand the molecular bases of neurological diseases, including movement disorders, epileptic encephalopathies, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, myasthenic syndromes and different neurodevelopmental conditions. I joined the Department of Molecular Neuroscience at the UCL Institute of Neurology since July 2015. The predominant focus of my current research is understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating the release, the transport and the action of neurotransmitters at synapses and how mutations in different genes encoding proteins implicated in these processes can lead to early-onset human neurological disorders. In order to achieve this, the analysis of results generated by using exome and genome sequencing technologies, together with functional in-vitro and in-vivo studies as well as animal models experiments, are all crucial to my present and future work.
