Biography

Ms. Wessam Abass is a pre-doctoral NIHR fellow, in the Department of Applied Health Research. Her research focuses on assessing the value of point of care (POC) diagnostics for respiratory tract infections and how POC tests can be tool to control antimicrobial resistance.

Ms. Abass graduated with a BSc. in Pharmaceutical Science from Cairo University in 2008. She completed her MSc. in Sustainable Development 'health policy track’ from the American University in Cairo in 2016. Simultaneously, she earned a Diploma in Health Economics from the Arab Academy for Science and Technology.

Ms. Abass has considerable experience in the fields of health policy and finance and health care management. She has professional experience as a public health consultant at IQVIA, and was a senior researcher at the health economics unit of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population.

Ms. Abass is passionate about economic evaluations and modeling of rapid diagnostics and its role in shaping the field of diagnostics post the pandemic. Additionally, she strives to shed light on the impact of rapid diagnostics for infectious diseases in the context of optimizing antibiotics use.
