Biography
I am a PhD student in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health within the Dental Public Health team. My PhD is funded by Becas Chile Scholarship. Before starting my PhD I qualified as a dentist at La Frontera University (Chile) and completed an MSc in Dental Public Health at UCL where I received the Dr Gillian and Dr Joseph Stoltman prize for my performance. I have also worked at public dental services in Chile and at La Frontera University in administrative and teaching roles.
Research Summary
My PhD aims to apply systems thinking to analyse a governance system (policy decision-making and implementation processes) to better understand how its mechanisms impact sugar consumption patterns. I'm studying the Chilean case due to the high prevalence of sugar-related health conditions, its high sugar consumption, and the recent implementation of a series of policies that regulate the accessibility, availability and affordability of sugars at the national level.
Teaching Summary

I have worked as a postgraduate teaching assistant on the following MSc Modules:

  • Basic Statistics for Medical Sciences
  • Principles and practice of Oral Health Promotion
  • Social Determinants of Global Health
