Dr Yuanchang Liu is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University College London. Before joining the department, he was a Research Fellow in Robotic Vision and Autonomous Vehicles at Surrey Space Centre, University of Surrey, funded by UK Space Agency. Dr Yuanchang Liu received MSc degree in Power Systems Engineering, and a PhD degree in Marine Control Engineering, both from University College London in 2011 and 2016, respectively. Dr Liu’s research focuses on automation and autonomy, with a special interest in the exploration of technologies for sensing and perception, and guidance and control of intelligent and autonomous vehicles.

Dr Yuanchang Liu’s research mainly focuses on robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) with a special interest in marine application including surface and underwater marine vehicles. With his expertise in RAS, Dr Yuanchang Liu has undertaken influential research work in sensor fusion, planning and control and machine learning, with original research outputs actively published in leading international journals and conferences. Dr Yuanchang Liu’s research is well supported by various national and international research funding agencies with his research activities mainly including three pillars: 1) asynchronous vision and high-efficiency autonomy, 2) statistical machine learning in robotics and control and 3) automation in marine engineering.
