Biography

Zongyi joined IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society as Professor of Curriculum and Pedagogy on 12th December 2019. Currently an executive editor of Journal of Curriculum Studies (JCS), he has held faculty positions at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and the University of Hong Kong. His interest areas include curriculum content or subject matter, curriculum theory, didactics (Didaktik), curriculum policy and reform, and comparative and international education.

 

He holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching and Educational Policy (Michigan State University), a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (South China Normal University) and a B.Sc. in Physics (Guangzhou University).


Zongyi has been regularly invited to be a keynote and plenary speaker in international conferences in different parts of the world. He has as well served as an international adviser/consultant for several projects and research centres in China, UK, Canada and Hong Kong.

Teaching Summary

I have extensive teaching experience at the advanced graduate level and have taught in the areas of curriculum policy and reform, curriculum theory, curriculum making, classroom pedagogy, society and schooling, educational philosophy, educational enquiry and qualitative research methods.


Courses taught at NIE include: Inquiry into curriculum and teaching I (PhD & EdD), Curriculum policy and reform (EdD), Fieldwork research in curriculum and teaching  (PhD & EdD), Globalization, educational change and pedagogical reform (MA), Introduction to curriculum theory and design (MEd), The curriculum in Singapore: A critical perspective (MEd), Understanding Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice (MEd), Critical inquiry (MEd) , Qualitative methods in education (MEd), Educational Inquiry I & II (MEd) and Seminars on the philosophy of John Dewey (PhD).


Courses taught at HKU include: Doing fieldwork in educational settings (PhD & EdD), Understanding the processes and contexts of education – Part 1 & II (PGDE), Understanding curriculum: Conceptions and design (MEd), and The Liberal Studies curriculum: Issues of curriculum philosophy and design (MEd)
